After taking to my tutor it was suggested to have accents of my ideas. It was suggested to do this in forms of objects, the objects could be used to spark the audiences imagination. They would be displayed on plinths in the room.
First I had to book a room. I was looking at the office in the blue shed and F1.03. I wanted a small, intimate room that the we could project our video and also display objects. I chose a room rather than an corner of a big room as I wanted the audience to have feeling of walking into a new world. I measured and took photos of both rooms. After reflecting on the rooms I decided the room F1.03 would better suit the my ideas. Firstly the room was more rectangular, meaning we would have space for both the projection and the objects in that room, with the smaller office in the blue shed the objects would have had to be placed on the sides of the rooms. This was not ideal as I wanted the objects to be dispersed throughout the room so that the audience could interact with them, rather than them being pushed to the side. Also, the two walls of windows in F1.03 meant I could play with the abundance of light. Finally, in F1.03 the door is placed on the right hand side of the room, where as in the office in the blue shed the door is placed in the middle. Choosing a room with the door placed on the right hand side meant that I could create a clear path/journey for the audience to follow as they eye is drawn to the whole room. Choosing the room with a door in the centre of the room would have meant that they would be no clear focal point for the audience.

For the design of the room I wanted to use the ideas of the right hand side of the brain interacting with the left hand side of the brain that I explored in my model. I was inspired by the use of pattern in the surrealist films and how patterns could relate to imagination as imagination is a none-existent thing that is often described with using colour and shapes. Therefore, I hand this idea of using colour and shape to describe the two parts of the brain.
Two show the right side of the brain I would look at bright colours and free flowing patterns. And to show the let side of the brain I would look at black and white and more geometric patterns. But instead of isolating the two parts of the brain I wanted to look at how I could bring them together. Therefore, I wanted to combine the colours and styles of the pattern.
On the left window would be bright coloured cellophane that would be in the geometric shapes of triangles and rectangles. On the floor would be white circles and free flowing patterns that would contrast with the grey floor.

At the beginning of our group sessions Michael had the idea of projecting the video on the ceiling as a way of showing imagination is at its best when changing your perspective and looking up. I really liked this idea and therefore incorporated this in took my design. To do this I made a stand so the projector could face at an angle to face the ceiling. Also we secured a white sheet of glossed paper to the ceiling so that the video could be projected on a flat surface.
The objects in the room would translate the idea of combing the colours and styles of the pattern. Therefore I wanted geometric shaped objects and also colourful and rounded objects. I started of by looking at online searches of geometric and colourful objects. Once I had inspiration I went to charity shops to look for unique unusual objects that we could display. I chose to go to charity shops as I knew that charity shops had unique objects at low prices. This was important as we where funding the money ourselves, and therefore I set myself a budget of £30.

After looking in charity shops I found 3 objects to portray the right side of the brain, however did not find any objects finding to portray the left side of the brain. Therefore I looked on Amazon and also asked my group if they had any objects that would fit what I was looking for. I found 3 more objects on Amazon that fit in with the style of geometric patterns and dull colours. My group volunteered 2 objects, one reflecting each side of the brain. Therefore I had 8 objects in total.

From Amazon I also ordered coloured cellophane to cover one side of the windows and white electrical tape to create patterns on the floor. Overall the spending came to around £31.84 which was £5.31 per person. That’s not a fixed value as there could be one or two things we need for the set-up, but will be around the budget.
